Thoughts on National Police Week 2019

This week is National Police Week, a time to remember those that have fallen in the line of duty and acknowledge the sacrifices that officers and their families make to maintain our society. ⠀

Never take anything for granted. We are incredibly blessed. But everything comes with a cost, and that cost is paid by first responders. It’s paid with time away from family, mental illness, public ridicule and criticism, and ultimately lives, whether in the line of duty or from suicide.

First responders see the worst in humanity every single day and keep showing up. If you’ve never walked in their shoes, you have no idea what’s out there, even in our relatively stable and prosperous society. That’s not to say you don’t have perspective, it’s just an acknowledgement of the burden first responders bear. It’s a calling, not a job.

To all officers and their families, thank you. Don't be afraid to acknowledge the unseen wounds that the job can leave. Take care of yourselves and each other. No one fights alone.
