Client Success Story - John Lost Fat Without Meal Prepping

My client John is a busy guy with no control over his schedule.

He travels for work and rarely has control over what food he has access to. He has to make do with pizza, subs, and burgers from whatever catering company is providing food for his events.

When we first started working together, he felt like crap and remembered a time several years ago when he wasn’t traveling for work and was able to follow a strict meal plan and workout schedule. He felt great then and was leaner and stronger.

He had no idea if he’d be able to lose fat while not being able to follow a meal plan or make his own food like he did before.

I told him there are many ways to lose fat without counting every macro or prepping all his food.

We started working on the strategies I’m about to outline for you and immediately his body composition started to improve. He started losing weight and noticing more muscle definition and more energy for his demanding shifts.

More importantly, he learned how to break his all-or-nothing thinking and work with his schedule, rather than making excuses for stuff that WAS under his control.

Here’s what we did to help him lose weight while traveling and eating out all the time:

-          We started thinking “one less.” John was free to eat whatever was available, he just simply ate “one less” (one less cookie, one less slice of pizza, etc) than he did before.

-          We looked for ways to manage stress and regain control without relying on food. John used food as a coping mechanism – he had no control over his schedule, so he compensated by eating as much food as he could when he got a brief break to feel back in control of his life. Ironically, he then felt even more out of control afterwards. We started noticing those times and developed a mental strategy and routine for him to feel more in control without reaching for unhealthy food.

-          He gave himself “unconditional permission” to eat. He thought of foods as good or bad – we flipped that thinking and he allowed himself to eat guilt-free. Think of it this way – when you tell a kid to do something, what do they want to do? That think you told them not to do. It’s weird, but “unconditional permission” actually reduces self-sabotage since you don’t feel deprived.
